Tuesday 27th March - Vaulx, Favreuil
I woke up at 8a.m. cold as an iceberg and fixed up some breakfast for ourselves. Ron & I then hunted for things to fix up our dug-out and at last made it tres bonne, We then slept until about 2p.m. when we carried more barbed wire. We finished at 4.30p.m. & went to pack up our gear. We were relieved at 10 p.m. while the shells were crashing overhead. We got off with only a few wounded to the big building in Vaulx where we had hot tea & stew which was very welcome. We then marched on to Favreuil where we billeted in an old fritz hospital we soon settled down to sleep.
Wednesday 28th March - Bazentin
Got up as cold as ice we only had our coats in which to sleep in. Had breakfast at 11.30a.m. We moved off at 1p.m. to Bazentin where we had two blankets.
Thursday 29th March - Fricourt
Got up and had an early breakfast. We marched to Fricourt and reached there in time for dinner. After dinner Ron went to the canteen & I cleaned our guns which were badly in need of it.
