at Caestre, had some eggs & then made for the camp.
Meanwhile, tired & thirsty Eva visited every estament he came across on the way. In a semi alcoholic condition he seems to have gone across country by dirty lanes & miraculously done what he failed to do the previous evening when sober; found a short cut. It brought him out at Strazeele, & if he had not been unfortunate enough to get shut up in a pigsty by a garrulous & angry Frenchwoman Belgian lady of ripe years, he would have forestalled us by arriving some time before. As it was our return was almost simultaneous
