but not quite up to our country town style. Villages such as Caestre are very numerous in this part of Flanders, & in size & importance are midway between our small village & country town. They are not very much larger than our villages but very much busier.
The shops are generally entered by a door from an ordinary passage opposite which is generally another door leading to a room in which one gets refreshments. These consist of eggs, coffee, bread & butter, biscuits (at ruinous prices) & sometimes tea. They pay good attention to the coffee & know how to make it, while tea,
