& the firing, as soon as possible.Most of the roads round here are bordered by trees, & the country is nearly all under cultivation. Numerous collections of perpendicular poles, denotes the presence of hopfields. The hill of Mont de Katz is practically the only large hill to be seen on the landscape & that is slightly wooded & very pretty -- some 8 miles from here I should think.The guns can be heard in a desultory fashion all day, & at night the horizon is lit up from time to time by flashes. I have not yet been able to get my bearings. The front seems to be in the direction of Poperinge, but that is away from Hazebrouck & therefore planes
