Clough & Eva went to Hazebrouck in the afternoon & thereby had nearly had a little bombing experience.
Soon after we got to bed in our crowded tent we heard the distant sound of bombs bursting, then the whine of aeroplanes & finally the noise of anti aircraft guns.
The Boche was on his nightly raid over the district (he missed our first night here as it was stormy). The bombs were dropped round & seemed to get nearer, but after a time the Boche seemed to be driven off. It was amusing to hear all the boys on the country side barking loudly: they had evidently experienced the sound of bombs before
