Friday 26th Oct
On Wednesday evening just before tea time we arrived at Hazebrouk (Hazebrouck), which is a kind of headquarters town behind the Ypres front, within shell fire reach of the Germans, & frequently visited by aeroplanes. We stayed in the train for some time, & a truck full of beer barrels on the next line consequently suffered to the extent of some 8 barrels.
At dusk we went back or forward (I am not sure which, but we commenced by retracing our way) to Caestre station which is on the main line to Poperinge near the rail head. Here we detrained & marched a short distance to a rest camp. Gray & I went into
