Our friend Barnes of the original 3rd Fld Amb., in a state of intoxication, was a frequent demander of "Spells"; but the boys themselves silenced him Clough got a ride in a waggon looking after officers kit, & Eva, Gray & I did the remainder with many a cheerful jest & without turning a hair.
Packed into trucks at the Docks station & our truck, capable of holding 10 comfortably, received forty & so it was a night of misery. All was in darkness, with both sliding doors closed, & all more or less cramped & very uncomfortable. Frequently there were stoppages, which
