But it was a terribly large net to catch such small fish.
We were composed of: - one General with staff complete. Two Brigades of mounted men – roughly 1500 men – one big 18 pde gun. Two Ambulances and nearly a thousand camels bringing water, stores & equipment.
I think the trouble lay in the fact that since the aeroplane's last report – at sundown- the enemy had shifted about 4 miles further than Bir el Abd where we had proposed to surprise them, the result being that we came on them half an hour too
