goodnes of the soil & its eligibility for Settlers at about 40 miles from the entrance, I have offered some of the returning settlers from Norfolk Island to fix there, which will be extending the Settlements further Northward, and facilitate the growing of Cattle which would be an object of great future useful to these Colonies.

I hope no circumstance will ever be allowed to operate in removing the entire settlement from Norfolk Island, as the advantage it has been of to this settlement is too well known by the unprejudiced to encourage a thought of the kind which would not fail of having very bad consequences for to that Island must a supply of Salt Pork be looked for in any [indecipherable] of this Colony being distressed;  & when it is considered that Norfolk Island has maintained its own Inhabitants ever since the year 1793, and has largely contributed to supplying this place with Salt meat its utility in that point must be admitted, because otherways a constant supply must have been sent from England since that period.  There has also been another very great & decided advantage attending that
