Dear Sir
I am afraid afraid I cannot
give you many particulars respecting
the Word "Meroo"
It is the name given
to a Parish in the County of
Cook. The Parish was probably
called after the name of one of
the large holdings in that locality
granted in the early days.
"Meroo or the Islands" and
it is a mountain tract of country
between two creeks or rather
the tributaries of Little Wheeny
Creek. It is more than likely
that you would find in the
original grant of 2560 acres to
William Hampden Dutton the land
in pencil in left hand margin
The country is
intersected by
several small creeks
or tributaries of
Little Wheeny Creek
