It is in respect to your communication
of the 26th  August 1899 requesting
me to supply such information
as I may be able to relative to
the meanings of aboriginal names
for the benefit of the Anthropo-
logical Society of Australia I
now beg to state that though
I spent a good deal of time in
my boyhood on the Lower Hunter
shooting, hunting & fishing
with the blacks who were  then
fairly numerous and though
I knew the meaning of a great
number of their words after such
a lapse of time I find that I
cannot now recall to mind many
of their words. Again the personal
of the Station owners and managers
has so changed in this district
and so many of the old overseers
and stockmen who took an
interest in the Aborigines have
died off during the last thirty
years that I have been unsuccessful
in obtaining any information
to speak of from such sources
However I may be able to offord
