Sen Const Wood, begs to reportthat: he forwards herewith Returnreferred to in telegram attachedby the earliest possible post. and tostate that it is very difficult toascertain from the Aboriginals namesof places and their reasons for sonaming such places.The Sen Const. has also questionedStation managers and others, and sofar is unable to furnish any furtherinformation than contained in formfilled in and attached.The Sen Const. begs to state that itis hard to get meanings of namesfrom blacks, excepting extra intelligentones, and they are rare in these parts- they have known names of placesfrom their childhood, but appear tohave never been questioned as to theirmeanings and in lots of places thenames consist of two or moresyllables, or words having the same mean-ing it takes tracing when you doget them to understand what youwant to know. their names for wind, weather.trees, animals & [?] they can readily give, but.names of place & their meanings are very different.
