Re Circular from Head Office concerning Native names asked for by the Anthropological Society
West Wyalong 15th Sept 1899Referring to your circular covering one fromthe Anthropological Society of Australasia, asking for assistance in collecting Nativenames of places in the Colony with theirmeanings, I regret that I have notpaid attention to the subjects and the aborigines never interested me. I have at various times heard many names given by them to places but without inquiringas to meanings - There is one name of a place, I believe on the lower darling River, which has always struck me as beingextraordinary but I have never beenable to learn its significence - It is"Mungadallaxringadallaxlallalallaxlat lat."It is quite euphonious if divided up as I have indicated by the x marks.I will bear your circular in mind andif I hear any meanings for Native name will send you the information Alfred Ebsworth
