making, in fact, a first Line of defence. Whereat we rejoice greatly as it points to our leaving here, as the men at Divisional H Qs declare that the scheme out here is not an advance but merely an offensive to keep the Turks out of gunshot of the Canal.
So when the line of trenches & redoubts are completed & they have finished the 6' pipe of water they are running out here, we shall be practically useless unless we have to advance further out which is unlikely, being well out of range of the casualties.
