The present establishment of the mint which has been brought from the old to the New mint is very ancient, Tradition informing that the Constitution is as old as the Reign of Edwd the 3rd & like that of the Exchequer it Consists of Two departments, the one operative, the other Solely intended to Superintend the operations & to check in its earliest Stage all Every inclination towards Fraud
Suitable as Such an Establishment may have been to the manners of the dark & half Civilisd times when it was instituted, it is far less important to the improvd manner the Public Credit & the mutual Confidence of the age we live in, Emoluments of the Checque offices of the Exchequer having become Burthensome to the nation have been already much Reducd & are likely to be Submitted to Further Regulations, those of the mint however are So inadequately provided for that a Considerable little Costly that an increase of neither those deduction from their
