day & when night fell we were ordered up to support some Tommies to the north of Bullecourt who were being countered. The attack however failed & so we were ordered to return. However we moved up to relieve the 2nd Div at 12.30 AM on the 5th & waited in a communication trench until about mid-day. All the morning our stretcher bearers operating in the open were the constantly under fire. Several were shot down with Machine Gs under the Red Cross & Fritz enhanced his reputation by shooting down his own wounded who were trying to reach our lines. At 12 P.M. we moved up &
