They had no ropes to cover the unfortunate corpse with so they had to use the hoop iron bands off the bales of 'tibn'. All went well until the corpse was lowered when they found that the natives had made the grave longer at the bottom top than at the bottom with the result that the corpse stuck half way & an axe had to be brought & the sides chopped away underneath.
Altogether as an impressive ceremony it was somewhat of a failure.
