take it in turns to go on sentry duty two hours on & four off. Mick amongst others were sleeping in their hammocks when I made my round of inspection – they had to turn out & fall in for inspection. I appreciated very much your little note in the Daily Light book. I will do my best, dearest old woman, to read a page every day and will always think of you doing the same at probably the same time. This should certainly prove a strong bond of union between us.
I have never for a moment doubted that I loved you dearest old girl but since this our first real parting I have realized that I love you a good bit more than I thought I did.
