The district is quite denuded of stock. The Bosche stole all the bells from the district, but left these here. The people were afraid he would take them so they kept them quiet & didn't ring them for 4 years until the day that the English arrived.
25thResting at Priches. Roads very sloppy & muddy. All feet washed in Condy's hot solution & massaged with Methylated Spirits or Tommy Cooker.
26thMarched to Sains [Sains-du-Nord], through Cartignes [Cartignies], Boulogne [Boulogne-sur-Helpe], Quatre Maisons, & Zorels. Plenty of Billeting Space in large factories used by Germans as Hospitals.
The roads today were very sloppy. Not one man fell out. [Continued on Page 12]
