No 1. The Warden
in the Report of the Commee of the house of Commons 1697 his office is describd as follows, "The warden or Master of Exchange of Bullion & new Coind monies is by his office a magistrate, set over the Exchange or mint to do Right & Justice to the members thereoff, in all their Complaints & differences Except in Cases of Freehold & Causes relating to the Crown, Standing orders are made by him  the Master & Comptroller or any Two of them whereoff he is one, he takes care of the buildings & pays charges of the Repairs being first allowd by the Master Comptroller & Assay Master, or any Two of them the Master to be one, he Supervises the whole business of Coinage & pays the charge thereoff & the Salaries of the officers; except
