Mr Suttor called to the Chair.
Entry from Minutes of Proceedings, appointing the Committee, read by the clerk.
Committee considered as to their course of proceedings, and having decided upon taking evidence, the Clerk was instructed to take down the names of witnesses to be examined.
Motion made and Question,––"That Charles Moore, Esq., Director of the Botanical Gardens, and Henry Edouard Bonnard, Esq., Richmond, be summoned before this Committee as witnesses for to-morrow,"
––agreed to.

FRIDAY, 3 SEPTEMBER, 1886.

Mr Norton.
Printed copies of the Bill referred, and Petition from Henry Edouard Bonnard, praying the House either to appoint a Select Committee to collect evidence and report on the subject, or not to consent to the proposed Bill, unless the same is amended in certain particulars, before the Committee.
Mr. Thomas Hardy, a vine-grower in South Australia, and a Member of the Commission in Victoria on the Phylloxera, called in and examined.
Witness withdrew.
Charles Moore, Esq., Director of the Botanical Gardens, called in and examined.
Witness withdrew.
Henry Edouard Bonnard, Esq., a vine-grower, called in and examined.
Witness produced a large number of French Works respecting Phylloxera Vastatrix and left the same in charge of the Clerk attending the Committee.
Witness then withdrew.

WEDNESDAY, 8 SEPTEMBER, 1886.
PRESENT:––

Henry Edouard Bonnard, Esq., called in and further examined.
Witness exhibited a map showing the place (close to Avignon) in France where the PhylloxeraVastatrix first originated ; and also exhbited microscopic slides showing the appearance of the eggs when hatched, and the various forms of the insects throughout their existence, together with coloured engravings showing the insects, the galls formed by them on vine leaves, and a pamphlet respecting the phases of the disease.
Witness withdrew.
The Chairman then read to Mr. Henry Whittaker, horticulturist, and Secretary of the Fruit Growers' Union of New South Wales, who was called in and examined, the entry from Minutes of Proceedings appointing the Committee.
Witness read resolutions of meeting of the Fruit Growers' Union re Vine Diseases Bill, and handed in copy of the same to form portion of his evidence.
Witness then handed in a Report from "Vine Diseases Committee," Parramatta, on the same subject, which was read by the Chairman and also ordered to form an Appendix.
Witness withdrew.
