Anti-aircraft guns pumped shells at it as fast as they could send them. It was very pretty to see the shrapnel bursting all round it, but rather disappointing when we realized that they were having no effect.

I have enclosed a copy of a letter from Col .Anderson. I wrote back thanking him and told him I thought that such a course would hardly be playing the game. I hope you and father think I have done the right thing. If I didn't go now, we would feel as if we were shielding ourselves behind Arthur's death. Don't you think so?

I called in to see the colonel on my way back from France. He had had a motor accident and was in bed and rather badly bruised but nothing serious. He saw me for all that and when I told him my views he said he thought I was right. While we were talking Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Fisher came in so I waited my chance and left. Andy wishes to be remembered to Father.

Give my love to Father and Dorothy and remember me to Catherine.
