some days ago. And wrote him all the news. He seemed well and cheery from his letter.
Things have been fairly quiet up here. All the "frightfulness" is being concentrated against our offensive down South. There has been a fair amount to do what with changes and ones seniors going off on leave. The pukka G.S.O.3 has gone away to be a brigade major in an English Division and I am carrying on pro-tem.
It is becoming steadily colder and rainy days are more frequent but the weather is still very pleasant. The country up here is not nearly so pretty as in France, there are no nice rides, for badly cobbled roads abound. The Belgian people too are not nearly so rich as the French people it has fallen to our lot to meet.
