<p>[Page 108]</p><p>the monthly subsidy were to be greater than 25% of our wages, we would have to repay the difference at the end of the war.</p><p>From Lloyd on 20th/12/17: &nbsp;&pound;2/-/- (&nbsp;&pound;1 for Christmas, &nbsp;&pound;1 for December).</p><p>Christmas 1917 was a rather dismal affair; although we had a Christmas tree and a concert, there was no celebratory mood. This time we were not allowed any wine or beer.</p><p>I received &nbsp;&pound;2 from Lloyd on 29th/1/18 (month of January).</p><p>I am given &nbsp;&pound;2 (40M) a month again because I&#39;m attending school and cannot earn extra money.</p><p>From mid-January to the end of February 1918 evening roll-call was not until 7pm.</p><p>[Note in Margin:] comp. &nbsp;&pound;4/-/-</p>
