Not much doing all day. Had a letter from Mrs O'Kelly – wrote to May.
17/8/16 Thursday
Dull & raining – not many casualtys. French mortar Batterys very busy stirring up Fritz.
18/8/16 Friday
Dull & raining – Rather lively trench warfare – had a few calls during the night, the Snipers & Machine guns are cruel the way they play around our dug outs & thro the Cemetery – luckily for us we know the danger spots & try to duck when duty calls us.
19/8/16 Saturday
Dull & raining – motor Battery fellows got hell today – as soon as they start Fritz trains his artillery on them & before they get 6 shots over. We seem to think Fritz has some mechanical contrivance for detecting sound & is ready for them when they start. Poor Capt Jack & Corporal Fisher got badly knocked about. Artillery started strafing Fritz at 10.45 pm – 57th Raided his trenches & were very successful – We had
