Courthouse Byron Bay

W. Wentworth - Bucknell Esp.
Sydney

Dear Sir
  In reply to your
letter of the 18th re aborigines
of the district - The name of
the tribe inhabiting this part
of district is Drumbi[_]l. It is a
difficult matter to give the
boundaries as they are nomadic in
their habits & wander from the
Tweed & Clarence rivers, in fact
in the main days followed the
food supply. But the Headquarters
of the tribe can be given as the
Brunswick River. The name
of the next tribe is Bullina
Headquarters mouth of Richmond
River. The name of town Ballina
being a corruption of name of
Tribe. I append a few aborigine
terms that may be useful, where
I have placed _ under a letter
it is silent & the next letter
is sounded sharp for
instance. Bargεl the ε is
silent whilst the l is sounded
sharp.
