27/9/16 Wednesday
Nice day – Witnessed an escaped observation Balloon from over Fritzs lines, the wind was blowing over our way – so it went as far as Estaire & was then shot down by our anti aircraft guns. Very quiet in the trenches.
28/9/16 Thursday
Dull day – Very quiet – not disturbed at all last night. Got the news that Combles & Thiepval had fallen – Tanks doing great work.
29/9/16 Friday
Raining all day. Very quiet in our line. Fritz very busy putting over Minniewurzen & Shrapnel on Supports & entrance to V.C.S ops.
30/9/16 Saturday
Raining – Heavy bombardment – Made raids on Fritz's trench at night time, very successful – very few calls – on N.Z. buried in his dugout.
1/10/16 Sunday
Nice day – very quiet.
2/10/16 Monday
Nice day. Got relieved about 10 am, returned to Nouvea Monde, had the day off.
