Dear mother
My last letter is hereby officially cancelled. Since writing it I have crossed the channel four times which explains the long interval between mails. Duffy and the rest of the Battalion officers are in France, and I as usual am the melon. Just two hours before they left, I heard that my name had been withdrawn from the list.
On each of my trips I was officer in charge of a draft to France. My job consists of transporting them safely from this camp to the base somewhere or other behind the firing line - returning by the shortest possible route. It sounds very nice when you read it, but isn't all beer and skittles when you've got to do it.
