Was told that I had been paid a very big compliment, when transfered – as the Brig. gave my present C.O instructions – that he was to have his pick of the officers in the Brigade – What! What!

He – the CO – did put me over a Captain 11 month my Senior – C.O. my old Bn. has again spoken to Bde about me.

Oh I do really expect to get leave within a week or so now – Won't it be good-o to get leave to Blighty.

Cecil expects to join up his Bn. any time now. Address his mail – "C" Coy 8th Bn. A.I.F. – Look I am not going to try to get him in this Bn. – it would be rotten – both for myself and for him Another thing, neither he nor I would be able to do Our Duty in an "Action". I've seen too much of it lately; brothers in the same unit, going over the parapet get dopey and consequently can neither dodge danger nor do their duty. I can often see him when we are out of the trenches, and every few days we hear from each other. Joe is having a splendid time.
