Dad's last letter dated 13/-7/15

13/7/15

Sari Bair, Gallipoli Peninsula
13/7/15

My dear Wife,

Letters at last from you. The Post Office people have found us out at last. Got yours of Ap[ril] 19th & May 2nd, & Jessie's of May 17th, Mr. Boyds of 24th May & Mr. Lyle's of of 28th. My cable to Mr. Boyd took over a fortnight. Please tell him & Lyle I was pleased to get their letters. Tell Lyle I did get the annual report of the College from him, and was very pleased at his thoughtfulness. I am enclosing a note I got from Colonel Hugo & the S[enior] M[edical] O[fficer] of the Hospital Ship that Eric was on. It shows that he too did not expect Eric to lose his arm then. Of course I do not know what caused the decision to be made in Alexandria to amputate. Eric has gone to England I believe. He wrote to his Colonel here – fairly well with his left hand – saying he would come back here if they would have him! I went to Chatham's post, on our right front yesterday. Espie Dodds showed me through the trenches, and I saw the place where Allan Williams was buried, a quaint little Gully among dwarf pine trees, facing the South. I feel so sorry for his father & mother. A cross is made to put over the grave. 6 others are buried with him. A young Moran from Upper Dee was killed the same day.  Jock Orr was wounded 3 days ago with shrapnel in the head but not seriously. There is a round hole slashed out of his hat. I sent him to Lemnos
