15 Monday
Last 2 nurses returned Heliopolis.
Hospital dismantled & equipment packed. Mrs. Croll had gone on a visit to Cairo, and did not return here.
16 Tuesday
Waiting orders to return.
Donald Mackenzie called. Was in Port Said looking for lost equipment. Went to see him at Hotel after dinner.
17 Wednesday
Still waiting. Mackenzie returned to Cairo.
18 Thursday
Still waiting. Got word this morning to send an advance party to Cairo, 1 Officer & 20 others; also 1 officer, 1 N.C.O.[non-commissioned officer], dispenser & 8 men to be detailed to go to Australia on transport Suffolk in charge of invalids. Captain O’Brien to lead 1st. party; Lieut[enant] Carlile the party to Australia. Major Gordon’s birthday, entertained the officers at dinner at Eastern Exchange Hotel.
Went to say Goodbye to Sr[Sister] Masie Malachy.
19 Friday
Completely removed all traces of the Asile Couvreux as a Hospital. French Consul turns out to be business manager of the nuns, & is very annoyed at our going so soon. Wants £200, building in statu quo. Contractor’s bill is well over £200 also.
20 Saturday
Moved out to our Camp near Railway station on the sand
21 Sunday
Left Port Said 12.30 p.m., arrived Cairo 4.30. Train to Base details Camp Abbassia between Cairo & Heliopolis in Base details Camp.
