Young Swain was sent away about 2 weeks ago with slight injuries. I saw him. He was more frightened than hurt. I haven't seen Fred Fox lately. I don't know of any casual ties to any other Queenslanders. I sent Jessie Von Bibra's boy off for a bit with some slight ailment. The men here enjoy bathing in the sea – that is those who can get out of the trenches. When they get very thick the Turks burst a shrapnel near them, and as they scurry out of the water they are greeted with loud laughter by the men about, who think it is a huge joke. Sometimes no one gets hit with the first shot, and the men are out under cover before the next shot comes, as it is now only a single gun that does this. At one time 8 guns used to fire at once; but the Turks are either short of guns or of shells, 2 men were killed & 6 wounded yesterday when bathing round the S[outh] point quite exposed to the Turks guns; and the day before that 4 men bathing round the N[orth] point were hit by snipers – 2 killed. I have no more news to tell you now. So au revoir my dear wife. Hope you all and our good friends are in good health. Very kind regards to all friends.
