Tofoa & Caow -- His Port Refuge lies in 18º : 38½ ' S & 186º 04' E.t but by him in 183º: 52' E - His latitudes agree so near with mine that I will not dispute the point with him. It blew a gale of Wind while I was about these lands, & I could not delay time to wait for an intercourse with the Natives. -
I was now certain this was no part of my Discoveries which I made two days after - to these I met with a number of Islands I had not seen in the Bountys Launch, The whole being an extent of 90 leagues from East to West & 53 leagues from North to South, fertile, well inhabited, the Natives desirous of intercourse, & are like The Friendly Islanders.
I met with no lands between these Islands & those I discovered north of the New Hebrides - their position & extent I have likewise rectified & added to their number, all of which my Maps will elucidate and render a Navigation safe & easy to future Navigators - I must bear the mortification of having no intercourse with the Natives - I never gave up any thing so reluctantly. -
