the length of Timor, I should have been highly reprehensible to have risked meeting with a contrary monsoon that would have foiled me in the attempt. Under these circumstances I think you will read with pleasure an account of my proceedings.

To this moment my health as been bad -- a constant headach[sic] that distracts me, and a nervous affection in my Eyes almost prevents my writing, but I am now much better than I have been during the Voyage. Much to do & think of. I believe has been a blessing to me, for I became better in proportion as difficulty arose, and but for pain, I cannot be said to have been ill, as I have not been laid up in a Day at any one time. --

My passage to Otaheite was productive of no new circumstance, except some trifling additions to our last survey of Van Diemans Land & Maria's Islands, and the Discovery of a small half drowned Island in the Lat. of 27º :38' S & longitude 219º: 23' E
