My stay in Matavai Bay was replete with every good fortune I could wish -- Our friends there were always ready to assist us in getting the Plants, and to the last render us good and kind offices. The Sollicitations[sic] of Otoo to be brought to England were numerous, it really hurt me to refuse him, but if I have done a foolish thing it is in complying with his request in taking a clever active fellow one of his attendants, who if he returns to him, he says will be of great service to his family. My partiallity to Otoo led me to do this, & my gratitude would lead me to do a great deal more if I had it in my power. Besides this passenger, one of the gardeners men secreted himself on board with no other design but to inlist]sic], as he says, Erree no de Tooboo  (Chief Gardener, or Chief of the Plants) This man will stay at Jamaice, where if they make a proper use of him the greatest benefit will result from his information. --

I had scarce anchored when to my surprise a part of the Crew of the ship Matilda of London, (a Whale Fisher,) came on board. -- This Ship was lost on a Shoal
