present & future prosperity of the Colony with a due regard to the currency & Interest of the parent state, has ever on every occasion been kept in sight, altho' I must confes that in expressing these points I have been obliged to bear & forbear very much, to enter into any detail would be imposing on your time, which is now unnecessary, as I think things will now go on at least smoothly - And if I have not found myself supported in some instances as I think I ought to have been, still the doctrine of bearance & forbearance is equally imposed on me.  First because I will not desert my Post until I am regularly relieved; And secondly that no Act of mine will occasion my Children a Blush or my Friends any just regret on my account .
