Sydney  N S Wales July 21 1805

Dear Sir

By the  Argo Mr McArthurs [Macarthur?] ship I received yours of August 29th 1804 with the enclosed letters to Col Paterson, Brown & Cayley [Caley]. I hope by before you receive this you will have seen Brown & Mr Baure [Bauer] with their collections all safe arrived in the Investigators Bottom.  I certainly have a great anxiety about them, but from the manner in which the ship was repaired, strengthened & fitted, join'd to the abilities of the Commander I have more than sanguine hopes of their safety, excepting the dangers of Sea & Enemies.

No one can be ignorant, & myself less so, than any other of the unwearied endeavours you have so unenviably used for every circumstance in which the real interest of this Colony has been consumed, and perhaps no person of your Independence  & gratuitous public spirit has met with more  difficulties. The good you have done speaks loudly for itself, would that circumstances had allowed your proposals being followed up better than they have been, but I much fear the frequent changes of Ministry will not lessen your wishes, altho have every reason to be assured of by Lord Cambden [Camden] & Mr Cookes good wishes and exertions for its prosperity. And when they have had time to become more acquainted with its State I hope many suggestions that I have made will fall under their consideration which with what you can offer on the subject will greatly promote its benefits and prosperity.
