Received letter from Meg & Arch
1/3 loaf

[Aug. 20]

We had a fairly cold lie in the old barn, fell in for Church Parade, after service a lot of fellows got slips of paper for good work on the field, a lot of rot, disgrace.  Some fellows got recommended & they did no more than their duty.  I had a walk to Flexecourt [Flixecourt] after dinner about 7 miles there, there is some lovely country, plenty of factories & farming, Flexecourt is in a valley like all French villages, plenty apples but none ripe.
