Wrote 44th letter home also to Robert Collins, Aunt Liz & Fr Nichol

[June 11]

My mates told me this morning that the big guns had been going all night, they said the noise was like thunder.  It is raining a little, but fine in the afternoon & we had a walk to the little town.  The town is very rough, about every house sell wine & the women seem very low.  No doubt the men fall when you see woman beconing you into the house.  I went to bed in our wood hut & the floor is hard.
