Wrote home 50. Wrote to Aunt Liz

[July 17]

A cold brick floor for a bed last night, very tired, after rifles inspected I asked Capt for leave to go to DOMART to see Bob. [his brother].  My feet were very sore & when I got there I saw another Bob Turnbull, I nearly dropped when I found all my labour was invain, my feet were bad but I got a ride nearly all the way home.  Got some hay for my bed to night, had tea & went through a church & church yard very ancient.
