Wrote 34 [th] letter home

[April 16]

I was on guard all day & we had a good time, 10 hours off & 2 hours on. We had plenty of fruit & good tea which a cook made for us.  We saw about 33 Turkish prisoners brought down for [from?] the outposts, captured by the light horse, One LH killed.  We think it queer for the enemy to be so near.  A dreary Sunday. No Service. No hymns nothing but sun set.
