Tracing the different extensive inland Navigations likely to be found on this coast will require some years to accomplish, as it therefore in this instance can only be done in part, I see scarce any thing more that is necessary to take notice of

The ships should be on the Coast by the 1st of March (a) What spare time they have may be spent at the Sandwich Islands, [Hawaii] surveying such places as were not explored before, and getting refreshments. -

They should be directed not to touch at the Society Islands, [Tahiti] as the supplies there have already been much drained & will be wanted for ships on other service -

With respect to the first establishing a settlement, it is certainly advisable to fix on the narrowest part of a straight, if such a place presents itself, as by that means a greater command can be had

(a) It will be a great risk to employ them on any other Coast, if their principal busyness is on this.
