the method pursued in fixing the situation of detached Rocks and Shoals. -

     All bearings for the use of the Survey, should be entered in the Survey Book, and the Variation of the Compass made use of at the time they are protracted.

     The Time kept by the Log and the Surveyor, must perfectly agree, the Courses & Distances will then be of real value. -

     The Measurement of all Bases to the particularly inserted, with the bearings taken at each end . -

     The foregoing being a sufficient check on the indolence or the insufficiency of the Surveyor, & which is almost sufficient to instruct him in the whole [art?]; may be given to him under the denomination of "Orders respecting Surveying." accompanied with the Form of a Survey Book. -
