Tues 17thHad 8 natives alongside diving for silver, & they got plenty of it, a lad of about 17 or 18 years of age dived twice off the bridge for 5/- each time. even half crowns were thrown overboard for them to dive for & needless to say they missed nothing, when they had a pounds worth of silver they would come aboard & change it for a soverign, they had quite a mouthful of sovereigns when they left here. we were about the last boat they visited. apparently they made a little fortune,their boats did not appear to be very expensive as the consisted of 3 logs roughly cut out, & bound together at each end by a piece of rope; their paddles are flat pieces of board shaped something like a boomerang; but it is wonder how they can row them along as they
