THURSDAY, 9 SEPTEMBER, 1886.

The witnesses summoned for this dau, viz., Messrs. Ferguson and Angus Mackay, not being present,–
The Honourable Philip Gidley King, M.L.C., made a statement in reference to Phylloxera Vastatrix ; was examined, and handed in extract from Report of Select Committee, Melbourne, 1880, as an Appendix to his evidence.
The Committee deliberated as to the provisions of the Bill referred, and it was resolved now to consider the same.
Bill considered accordingly.
Title and preamble postponed.
Clauses 1 to 6 severally read, amended, and agreed to.
Clauses 7 read and agree to.
Clauses 8 and 9 read, amended, and agreed to.
Clauses 10 to 13 read and agree to.
Preamble read and agree to.
Title read, amended, and agreed to.
The Committee deliberated, and resolved to proceed on the following day to visit and inspect the vineyards said to be infected with Phylloxera Vastatrix at and near Camden Park, in accordance with the request for leave being subsequently granted to the Committee by the House.

Charles Watt, Esq. (Government Analyst), called in and examined.
Witness withdrew.
Charles Watt, Esq., called in and further examined.
Witness handed in report from Mr. Percival, Consul at Bordeaux, on the means employed in France for protecting the vine from destruction by the Phylloxera.
The Chairman read a portion of the report to the Committee.
Witness withdrew. 
Bill reconsidered, amended, and agreed to.
Committee deliberated, and it was resolved,––That sufficient evidence has now been taken for the purposes of this inquiry.
Whereupon the Chairman proposed to prepare a Draft Report to be submitted to the Committee at their next meeting,––agreed to.
