the Sydney of 1000 Tons which carried the Cows from Calcutta to Port Dalrymple, has permission to proceed to England with all the oil & Skins taken in this Neighbourhood in the present Year. Should this be accomplished she will sail in December or January. The Master has consented to take all the Ship Timber we have Cut on account of the Navy Board among which is some Excellent Timber & fences; he also promised to take Ten Tons of our best Iron Stone which Mr Humphry has selected, and is very abundant. My intention in sending it is to enable a fair Experiment being made of its results. I have therefore recommended to my Lord Camden, that it may be put under your direction in order to ascertain if its produce is sufficient to encourage Government sending one or two persons qualified to conduct the Smelting & Manufacturing it into iron which would not only be a great Colonial advantage but also a Natural one, As it abounds everywhere. I hope you will excuse the unauthorised liberty I have taken with your Name which I should not have done, had I not long known your desire of presenting the convenience of Society & the Welfare of this Colony.
