the same time as a place of confinement for the Refractory &c, and as an House of Industry for the Women &c quite separate from each other, in the latter we have now Twelve looms at work on linnen woollen & sail cloth.  This is a Building that has long been wanting & is a very comfortable asylum for the Women when they first land.

A day or two previous to the Lady Barlows sailing I received accounts left from Collins & Paterson the first dated Nov. 29th the latter Dec. 27th.

Collins appears to be going on well and has sent me up a Sketch of his Surveyors Examination of the
tides of the Huon & the Derwent the former does not appear favourable.  This Sketch I have sent to the Secty of State with another taken during Lieut Bowens command there which includes the country within Ten miles round the Settlement, And is I believe the most accurate of the Two.  His sick list is much decreased & he is going on well with plenty of Provisions as I have compleated him till next October.  I send his dispatches to the Secty of State up to the 10th last November the latest I received from him.

From Paterson I have received the most favourable detail of his examination of Port Dalrymple, the
