Note

     Probably the "edible bean" is the seed of the 

     bean tree, (bow-gam-gir), or Moreton Bay chestnut,

      which is contained in large pods. I have been

      told that the blacks used to crush these seeds

      and soak them for some days in running water

     to remove certain deleterious matter before

     roasting them for food.
