kind and hospitable people. They regretted keenly that I had not been down before and that we were both going away so soon. Arrived at ship about 10.30 without anything startling happening.
Monday 25th[26th] July 1915. Arose about 6.30 & went down to church to say goodbye to Fr Davidson. Since meeting this dear good man I have taken a great liking to him & felt very sorry at parting. He was sorry I had to go and assured me he would not forget me. The North Sea pilot has been aboard since Saturday & a river pilot came aboard about 7.30. Two tugs were alongside at 8 and after breakfast at 8.30 the ship backed out from the dock. Passing through Victoria Dock the swing bridge had to open for
