left my velour hat at a dyers to have its atrocious colour made into something civilized. After dinner again went ashore, & had a tram ride to Norton Green a few miles out of the city, passing on the way Thornaby & Stockton the latter being rather a large sized town. As rain was falling I did not alight from the tram but came back again. After tea Watt & self went for a walk through the City & to the gardens. Returned to ship about 8.30pm.
Saturday 30th[31st] July 1915. Assisted Purser during morning & afternoon went ashore after tea & to Confession at St Marys Cathedral a very fine church ΒΌ of an hours walk from the Docks. The Streets of the City were simply
